The modern Lengthsman is a locally employed person who can really make a difference to
the community environment by maintaining roadside verges and drainage and generally
maintaining and raising the standards within the Parish. The role may be expanded to tackle
other small-scale maintenance work.
Appropriate basic training on the hazards of working in the highway and standards of
work to be achieved will be provided.
The post is part-time but involves a flexible approach to working hours, which are approximately 22 hours per month at £11.00 per hour. The initial contract is for one year only, with regular reviews at one month and 3 months, and subsequent 3-month intervals. A review before the completion of 12 months will determine, or otherwise, a further 12-month contract.
